Cruising to the lesser known gems of the Caribbean

The perennial stopovers of the Bahamas, Jamaica and Barbados are the staple of the larger cruise ships, but there are almost 30 island nations in the Caribbean and more than 7,000 individual islands in these calm, cerulean waters. Now is the time to discover the less crowded and more private islands that is, more often than not, only practical with smaller, intimate vessels.

Visit ports like Saba in the Netherlands Antilles, where Mt. Scenery is the highest point in all of The Netherlands at 877 metres above sea level. This five square mile island has one road, but welcomes small planes and small ships like Seabourn’s luxury fleet. Another interesting and obscure island is Jost Van Dyke, one of 40 islands that make up the British Virgin Islands. Cruise to Deshaies in Guadeloupe and visit a Creole farm where you’ll discover the unusual fruits and vegetables used as both food and medicine. You can also kayak through remarkable mangroves and snorkel through coral reefs.

Cruising on a Seabourn ship is unlike any other form of travel. The experience is luxurious, yet relaxed, elegant, yet casual, sumptuous, yet understated. These intimate ships visit the most desirable destinations worldwide, sailing to the heart of landmark cities as well as to hidden gems where larger vessels cannot follow.
