Belmond Hotel Monasterio, Cuzco, Peru
The building is a wonderful example of 'Cuzco Baroque' architecture originally built on the site of an ancient Inca Palace. Today it combines its monastic origins with the best of colonial style and a touch of Inca Peru.
There are just over 100 guest rooms including 20 deluxe suites of varying sizes. They are furnished and decorated in a striking combination of modern and traditional Spanish styles. Beamed ceilings rise above spacious rooms enlivened by painted, Inca-style detailing around the arched doorways.Wonderfully atmospheric, this hotel is an ideal base from which to discover the delights of Cuzco – its doors open to a vibrant scene of old and modern architecture, markets, galleries and restaurants serving ‘new Andean’ cuisine.
