Anassa, Cyprus
The Akamas Peninsula is the backdrop to the finest hotel in Cyprus and quite possibly the Mediterranean - the aptly named Anassa, flagship of Thanos hotels. Anassa means ‘Queen’ in ancient Greek.
It is a truly majestic property that exudes the sleepy charm of an ancient Byzantine village. It spreads across gentle slopes that drop to the best beach in Cyprus and features white-washed walls, clay roof tiles and wooden shutters and doors. A central square and a traditional church, Ayia Athanasia, with a bell-tower complete the feel of an authentic Cypriot hamlet. The hotel comprises low-rise buildings and landscaped gardens spread over 21 acres. None of the buildings are higher than three storeys.Annasa’s interior design reflects Cyprus’ rich cultural heritage and features Roman mosaics, Greek motifs and Venetian frescoes. The resort comprises 166 rooms, studio rooms and suites all of which offer extraordinary spacious, luxurious accommodation opening onto balconies with panoramic sea views. Some have private plunge pools and whirlpools on sea-facing terraces.
